How to install RHEL 9 for free

After downloading the ISO image, get a 16 GB USB drive and create a bootable USB drive use apps like UnetBootIn or Balena Etcher to make it bootable.

After a few seconds, the graphical wizard to install Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9.0. In the first step, choose your preferred language and click ‘Continue‘.

Step 2: Configure the partition

The next step presents you with an installation summary divided into four sections:

  • LOCATE
  • SOFTWARE
  • SYSTEM
  • USER SETUP

We will focus on only three required items before proceeding with the installation – Installation destination, Parent Accountand Regular account creation.

To set up the partition, click ‘Installation destination‘ Below SYSTEM. Above ‘Installation destination‘, make sure you’ve selected’Automaticoption ‘if you want the wizard to automatically partition the hard drive. Otherwise, select ‘Tradition‘ to create the partition manually.

Also, make sure you have selected the hard disk on your PC. Then click ‘Accomplished‘.

This brings you to ‘Manual Partitioning‘ Windows. By default, LVM partitioning program is selected, this is fine.

To start creating partitions, click the plus sign [ + ] signal.

For demonstration purposes, we will create the following partitions.

/boot -	500MB
/home -	20GB
/root -	15GB
swap  - 8GB

First, we will specify start up right to buy.

Repeat the same steps and create /Home page, /sourceand swap mount the points.

Our complete partition table is shown below. To save the changes, click ‘Accomplished‘.

Then click ‘Accept the changes‘ on the pop-up that appears.

Step 3: Configure user settings

Next, we’ll configure the user settings, starting with Source unlock password. So click ‘Original password‘ Icon.

Unlock Source by providing the root password and confirming it. Then click ‘Accomplished‘.

Next, create a regular login user by clicking ‘User created‘.

Provide the user’s username and password details and click ‘Accomplished‘.

Now we are ready to proceed with the installation. So click ‘Start the installation‘.

Wizard will download all required packages from ISO RedHat and save them to the hard drive. This is a lengthy process, and it’s the perfect time to take a break as the installation progresses.

Once the installation is complete, you will be asked to reboot your system to be able to log in RHEL 9 Setting.

So click ‘System reboot‘ button.

Step 4: Boot into Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9

Immediately after, provide your password on the login screen and press ENTER.

After logging in, you can choose to tour the newly installed section RHEL 9 or decline and go straight to Desktop.

Step 5: Enable Red Hat Subscription on RHEL 9

After you have installed RHEL 9Finally, your subscription RHEL register by running the following command on the terminal. The username and password are the login details to your Red Hat account.

$ sudo subscription-manager register --username=username --password=password
$ sudo subscription-manager attach --auto

To confirm that the system is registered RHSM (Red Hat Subscription Management), run the command:
